Xiping Zhang's Story

Xiping was born in Ma'anshan, Anhui, China in 1990. It is a small town in the southeast, and is famous for its iron industry. He spent his first 18 years there, and graduated from No.2 High School in May, 2008. After graduation, he was accepted by Chu Kochen Honors College, Zhejiang University.

Born in a family composed by an ex-pilot and an electronic engineer, Xiping pre-picked engineering as his major in college. But in 2009 after a student seminar hold by Prof. SC Wong, his interest changed. Instead of applying math techniques into reallife, he found that understanding the math behind is much more fascinating. He changed his major into mathematics, and spent the next 2 years in ZJU playing with math. He graduated from the Department of Mathematics, Zhejiang University in June, 2012, and received his honor degree from Chu Kochen Honors College.

Xiping decided to continue his math career and to finish his education, so he applied for graduate school and was accepted by Florida State University in Aug, 2012. He is now working with Dr. Paolo Aluffi as a PHD student, and he is interested in Algebraic Geometry, especially characteristic classes on possible singular varieties. He is also teaching undergraduate math courses in FSU.
