Abstract. In this talk we shall consider linear and nonlinear wave propagation in media with broken time-reversal symmetry. In particular, we will introduce the concept of parity-time (PT) symmetry and its applications to optics such as unidirectional invisibility. An integrable PT symmetric nonlinear Schrodinger equation will be introduced and the inverse scattering problem will be solved using a novel left-right Riemann-Hilbert problem.
