The Department of Mathematics is strongly committed to graduate education and research, and offers programs of study leading to both the master's (MA and MS) and the doctor of philosophy (PhD) degrees. Its programs are designed to prepare students for mathematics careers in the academic, financial, and industrial sectors. PhD and master's degrees are offered with concentrations in pure, biomedical, computational, financial, and applied mathematics.

Graduate Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics

Summary: The mathematics department offers a strong program in applied and computational mathematics. Areas of specialization include acoustics, fluid dynamics, computational methods, visualization, modeling and computation of soft matter and complex fluids, large scale simulation and applications. Master's and PhD degrees are available in Applied and Computational Mathematics. The successful graduate will be qualified to be a college or university professor, or a research scientist at a private or governmental institution.

Mathematics graduate credit hours  required for TA/RA in Applied and Computational Mathematics

1. 9 credit hours in graduate mathematics courses for international students, out-of-state domestic students, and  in-state domestic students (for now).

2. Additional hours of the English as a spoken language class for international students.

3. TA training classes.

4. Additional credit hours in mathematics can be added upon the approval of the major professor, the DAM and/or department Chairs.
