Tenure-track Position in Financial Mathematics


The Department of Mathematics at Florida State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2023. The position is aimed at financial mathematics and related areas, including stochastic analysis, probability, optimization, machine learning, mathematical economics, and actuarial science. The successful candidate will teach graduate courses and supervise PhD students, especially in financial mathematics, and teach general undergraduate mathematics courses.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in mathematics, or a related discipline, and postdoctoral experience related to the field of financial mathematics. The ideal candidate will have successful university-level teaching experience and promise of outstanding research in areas that complement the existing research interests of the faculty.

Florida State University is one of the two flagship research universities of the State University System of Florida, and is ranked 19th among all public U.S. universities by U.S. News and World Report. The university enrolls over 40,000 students at the main campus in Tallahassee, the capital city of Florida. It is located in North Florida, about twenty-five miles from the Gulf of Mexico's north coast, with easy access to pristine beaches and other natural habitats. The climate is warm, with an annual average high temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit and an annual average low of 56.

The Mathematics Department, https://www.math.fsu.edu, offers MS and PhD degrees in financial mathematics, and in three other graduate areas: applied and computational mathematics, pure mathematics, and biomathematics. Many of our faculty are cross-disciplinary and the successful candidate will be encouraged to work across disciplinary boundaries.
