Financial Mathematics at Florida State University

The FSU Financial Mathematics graduate program offers studies leading to the MS and PhD degrees in Mathematics related to Finance. Highlights:
  • The Department of Mathematics hosts this interdisciplinary program with support from faculty members in Statistics, Computer Science, Scientific Computing, and the Colleges of Business, Social Science, and Law.
  • Graduates of the program find employment as quants in industry and government, as actuaries, and in academia (see the Alumni page for placement data and select alumni interviews).
  • The flexible MS degree may be earned as a terminal degree or en route to the PhD, offers an optional track in Actuarial Science, and carries the PSM designation.


History

The FSU Financial Mathematics Master's degree program was established in 1998 in the Department of Mathematics, with the cooperation of faculty from Economics, Finance, Risk Management, Statistics, and Computer Science. In 2002 a formal Financial Math PhD program was approved, with our first PhD granted in 2004. The department is committed to recruiting talented students and hiring world-class faculty to support the program.
