Abstract.
In this talk I will give an overview about constructive methods in
Galois theory. In the main part of the talk I will describe how to
compute the Galois group of an irreducible polynomial. These methods
are implemented in the computer algebra system Magma and it is
possible to compute Galois groups of polynomials of high degree,
say of degree 64 or 128. In a second part I will give some ideas
how to construct polynomials with a given Galois group. Those
polynomials are collected in a database which is available from
my homepage.
