Below are movies regarding solid-fluid interaction. The first two
model boiling. Numerical simulations on a dynamic adaptive grid. Work is
with Viorel Mihalef, Samet Kadioglu, Betul Unlusu, Dimitris Metaxas, and
Yousuff Hussaini.
For this boiling movie, the temperature of the solid changes from hot to
cold.
Above is a movie
of an adaptive simulation of a liquid jet in cross-flow.
Movie created by Professor Gordon Erlebacher
as a part of the School of Computation Science (SCS) visualization lab, Florida
State University. Numerical Algorithm developed by
M. Sussman, K. Smith, M.Y. Hussaini, M. Ohta and R.-Z. Wei (work reported in JCP).
Below, Implosion and Explosion Movies with various geometries
(work with Samet Kadioglu, David Rubin and Joe Wright)...
First movie, underwater explosion, shock wave, ensuing bubble growth
and collapse against flat plate...
Second movie, underwater explosion, shock wave, shock wave interaction
with free surface causes "cavitation" (dark region)...
Next 3 movies, implosions for cavities with initial aspect ratios
of 10, 5 and 1 respectively...
Implosion with endcaps included...
Computations are adaptive. Numerical method treats compressible
multiphase flow with Mach uniform accuracy. Robust second order treatment
of contact discontinuity between gas and liquid, consistent approximation
of rarefaction waves and shock waves. Semi-implicit computation allows
for large time steps. Bubble jetting computation exhibits multiple
spatial and temporal scales.

of milk-drop simulation (with Viorel Mihalef, Dimitris Metaxas, E. Jimenez).
Computation uses robust second order treatment of free surface boundary
conditions.
