Title: The Topology of Algebraic Curves over the Complex Numbers.
Speaker: James Fullwood
Abstract: Algebraic Curves in the Complex Projective Plane arise in many diverse fields of mathematics such as number theory, complex analysis, topology, and differential equations of mathematical physics. These curves are also known under the guise of compact Reimann Surfaces, whose salient features are in a large part determined by their genus(their one and only topological invariant). Though this topic is very classical in nature, there is still quite a lot of active research done in this field, especially in genus one.
