The minimum expected GRE scores are Q 155 and V 140.

Achieving these minimums does not guarantee admission --most successful applicants have scores higher than this. However, the department considers your entire application in admission and financial aid decisions. The GRE general test is required; the GMAT or other tests will not substitute for the GRE. The GRE subject test in Mathematics is not required.

A GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 is required in all upper-division coursework for undergraduate students.

If your native language is not English, and you have not received a degree from an institution in an English speaking country, then you must submit scores from the TOEFL, IELTS, or similar standardized test (see link below).

The minimum score on the Internet based TOEFL is 80. Area directors may prefer higher scores when evaluating applications for admission.

All students start the graduate program in the fall semester (late August).

Financial aid is available and awarded competitively in the form of tuition waivers, teaching assistantships (TAs), research assistantships (RAs), and university fellowships. To apply, simply say "Yes" to the question "Would you like to be considered for financial assistance?" on the Application Form. All applicants apply to a single area (you will have the option of specifying a second choice for the area). Admission and funding decisions are made by areas.

Changing your area after arrival is possible but not guaranteed. Your application will need to be considered by the new area, and financial aid may not carry over. This means you should choose your area carefully according to your interests!
